These are the rules of the competition, you must read them in full before participating.
Any infringement of these rules may result in disqualification from the seed, the match or the entire season for the most serious offences (e.g. attempted cheating).
If you have participated to Season 1, you can check here a quick breakdown of the new features and changes in Season 2.
Any death during a qualifiers seed instantly ends the game.
Your score on the seed is equal to the number of bosses you have killed at the time of your death, or when your in-game timer reaches 2:00:00.
If you die after 2 bosses, your seed score will be 2 and you can't start again.
EXCEPTION
If you encounter a bug where you fall out of bounds for no reason, without any enemy interaction, death does not count and you can keep going: Clip example
Your score will be submitted when you die, but don't worry, it will be fixed manually when a reviewer watches your run.
The goal is to avoid penalizing you because your game has decided to stop working, we're here to have fun after all.
Be careful, though: this is the only case in which you're allowed to continue. If an enemy warps you through the floor, through an elevator, or you die in any other way, it's game over.
All qualifiers seeds and 1v1 matches must be streamed on your Twitch channel. You are only allowed one attempt per seed.
TURN ON PAST BROADCASTS STORAGE!
The VODs on your channel must be visible after the end of your stream, otherwise your score cannot be validated!
Go to your streaming settings and check the Store past broadcasts and Always Publish VODs boxes.
You don't need a mic, cam or even a very good internet connection.
As long as we can see what's going on, we can hear the sound of your game and your boss counter is identifiable, it's fine.
In your game capture settings on OBS, check Capture third-party overlays to make sure the boss counter is displayed.
Do a local record at the same time as you stream!
If you ever have an Internet issue during the seed, you'll still be able to provide a complete video.
If you set up the recording to use the same encoder as the stream, it won't take up any extra resources.
You have a maximum of 10 days to play a seed after its release.
Submitting your score is no longer necessary: it is automatically submitted when you die or after two hours.
If you haven't died, wait until the timer reaches 2:00:00 before leaving the game to trigger the sending of the score.
A total of 8 seeds will be available, but only your 5 best seeds will count towards your ranking.
Your 3 worst seeds won't be counted, so you won't be penalized if you die very quickly on the very first seed: that's okay, you'll do better on the next ones.
YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT KNOW THE SEED BEFORE PLAYING IT!
It is strictly forbidden to watch another player play the seed before you do, in order to gather information about items, enemies and bosses.
It is strictly forbidden to give other players any information about a qualifiers seed you have completed.
If it becomes obvious that you know the seed during your game, you will be disqualified.
Turning off your Twitch chat for qualifiers is recommended but not mandatory, you can keep it on as long as you ignore all outside advice. Play fair!
If you keep it on, try to mention somewhere on your stream that you cannot be helped (in the title, in a pinned message... whatever you like).
You're playing the seed solo, no one should help you: not your Twitch chat, not your buddy on Discord, not your little brother next to you.
TIE-BREAKING
Players with the same total number of bosses killed are ranked as follows: the player with the most bosses killed on their best seed wins.
If both players have the same score on their best seed, the 2nd best seed is compared, and so on down to the 8th.
Example: Player 1 did 25 | 37 | 18 on the first 3 seeds and Player 2 did 22 | 21 | 37.
Both players have 80 bosses killed in total, their best seed is 37 but the second best seed is 25 for Player 1 and 22 for Player 2.
So it's Player 1 who's ahead with their score of 25 on seed 1.
At the end of the qualifiers, the top 32 will face off in 1v1 matches to determine the season winner.
Ranks 1 to 16 will start in the winners bracket and ranks 17 to 32 will start in the losers bracket.
Together, the two players determine a date that suits them both: the seed will automatically be available 10 minutes before the agreed date.
All matches will be cast by a French and an English stream. By participating in the DRL, you authorize the casting teams to broadcast your Twitch livestream during a match.
You're free to watch other players' matches, even if you're in the playoffs.
The seeds will be different for each match, so it won't give you any information about your own match.
As with qualifiers seeds, you need to know nothing about the match seed before you play it, and it's strictly forbidden to watch the opponent's stream during your match.
You also need to turn off your Twitch chat to avoid spoilers. If it becomes obvious that you know the seed during your match, you will be disqualified.
The match doesn't end when a player dies: if both players have the same number of deaths, it's the number of bosses killed at the end of the 2 hours that counts.
Example: Player 1 dies at 27 then finishes at 68. Player 2 dies at 44 and finishes at 67.
Player 1 wins because Player 2 also died. Otherwise, they would have lost.
TIE-BREAKING
If both players have the same number of bosses killed at the end of the match, the player who killed the last boss first is declared the winner.
If both players killed the last boss at the same millisecond, the second-to-last boss is compared, and so on.
Example: Player 1 ends their seed at 42 bosses, having killed the 42nd boss at 1:59:23.
Player 2 also ends their seed at 42 bosses, having killed the 42nd boss at 1:59:00.
This means that Player 2 wins, having killed the last boss 23 seconds before Player 1.
Glitches are NOT ALLOWED during a qualifiers seed and a 1v1 match.
Using Memory of Grace to get back to the last site IS ALLOWED, you can use it whenever you want, even during a boss fight.
Quitouts (return to main menu) are NOT ALLOWED during a qualifiers seed and a 1v1 match.
They allow you to avoid death too easily, which is not in line with the deathless rule of the competition.
EXCEPTION
You can do a quitout to take a quick break if necessary. See next paragraph.
If you really need to take a break for whatever reason, you can quitout in a secure area for a few minutes.
Make sure you're not in combat before doing your quitout. Don't abuse this rule: only take a break if you really need to.
Mods will be provided together with the seeds, so you don't need to configure or add anything to play your seed.
The mods provided with the seeds are the following:
- Item and Enemy Randomizer: The randomizer containing the pre-generated seed.
- RandomizerHelper: A randomizer extension that enables weapons auto-upgrades.
- Boss Checklist Overlay: Boss checklist containing a predefined list with scaling for all bosses.
You can replace the randomizer/dll/EROverlay/data/engus/bosses.json file if you want to have your own boss list ordered as you wish.
If you'd like details of the randomizer settings used to generate the seeds, they can be found here.
The use of LiveSplit is NOT ALLOWED during a qualifiers seed and a 1v1 match.
LiveSplit calculates and modifies game time in a way that's different from the base game: if you play with LiveSplit on, you'll have an advantage over players who don't have it running.
This rule exists to make it as easy as possible for players to participate, without having to install any external software.
